Don Bosco Youth Centre

Don Bosco Youth Centre Excursion

A Travel Training event has been planned for Friday, 15 March 2024 at Don Bosco Youth Centre.

As part of the Travel Training program students will be practising the skills learnt at school in a public environment, which can help students in becoming independent and being able to attend work experience in future dates.

Students will be travelling to and from Colyton High School via bus to Don Bosco Youth Centre at St Marys.

Students will be leaving during Period 1 to catch the public bus with a short walk to the venue with staff and develop skills in:

  • learning to read timetables
  • use an Opal card (school will supply Opal card)
  • identify bus stops to disembark
  • paying cost of entry to venues
  • using an app to map out their route

As part of the NSW Department of Education initiatives on Road Safety Education we ask for parents/carers to support these initiatives by:

  • sharing responsibility for keeping children safe and reinforce road safety rules
  • engage with your child in decision making about what safe travel looks like

Students will be supplied with their own Opal card for the day, only for travel training. Students can bring some money with them to purchase a small food or drink item from the vending machines. We suggest students to bring their packed lunch as there may not be a canteen open to purchase from. We also encourage students to bring their mobile device as a way to communicate and map out their journey to and from school. All expectations of proper behaviour and use of mobile phone will be monitored by staff during travel training.
