Colyton High School Scholarships open in Term 3 2024

At Colyton High School we offer two different scholarships to assist up to thirteen students with their studies. Ten scholarships for students moving from Year 6 to Year 7 in the following year and three scholarships for Year 11 students in the current year of study.

Colyton High School offers up to ten scholarships for students enrolling in Year 7 to provide assistance with starting their secondary education.

The scholarships will be awarded to successful students who attend one of the following schools:

  • Bennett Road Public School
  • St Marys Central Public School
  • Colyton Public School
  • St Marys South Public School
  • Oxley Park Public School

Successful students will receive the scholarship prize at the start of their enrolment into Year 7 at Colyton High School. The Scholarship value is in excess of $400.00.

Colyton High School is offering 3x Senior Pathways Scholarship and 1x Koori Senior Pathways Scholarship for students enrolled in Year 11 commencing in in the new year to provide assistance with their education. The $1000 scholarships will be announced towards the end of Term 4, 2024 and scholarship payments will be distributed in Term 1, 2025 at the discretion of the principal, to students who remain at this school.

The application criteria are:

  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving your personal best.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Colyton High School values – Safe Respectful Learner.
  • Demonstrated sustained effort in all subject areas.
  • Demonstrated contribution to the school and, or community.

The scholarship may be used for the following: 

  • The school subject contributions and general contributions 
  • School uniform and approved footwear including Sport uniform. 
  • Any resources, supplies, or equipment which will support the student’s current education. 
  • Excursion/camp costs 
  • Technology equipment which would assist schoolwork.
  • Other (with approval by the principal or delegate)

The Youth Development Scholarships (YDS) program is offering up to 1,400 scholarships to young people enrolled in education or training to help complete their studies in the 2024 school year. 

Who can re-apply for a Youth Development Scholarship? 

You are eligible to apply if you are: 

Studying at one of the following in 2024: 

  • Year 10, 11 or 12 at an NSW high school or equivalent at TAFE or a VET subject at school; or 
  • completing a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship and able to provide a signed contract agreement from your registered training provider; or 
  • home schooling and able to provide a Certificate of Home Schooling Registration. 

You must also be either a social housing client or living in out-of-home care. This can include: 

  • living in public housing, including Aboriginal housing 
  • being on the NSW Housing Register (wait list) 
  •  receiving a private rental subsidy from DCJ (not Centrelink) 
  • living in community housing/Aboriginal community housing  living in housing provided by a Local Aboriginal Land Council 
  • living in supported, crisis or temporary accommodation 
  • living in statutory, supported, or voluntary out-of-home care. 

Note: Applicants living away from home or temporarily staying with family/friends need to be on a current social housing tenancy or have an active social housing application. 

How much is the Youth Development Scholarship? 

Each scholarship for the 2024 school year is $1,000 (no GST included as this is a grant payment).

When can I apply?

The application period for high school students includes the school holidays: 

Applications will open at 9am, 16 October 2023.

For New and Returning high school students, applications will close 5pm on 16 February 2024.

Applications for scholarships opens 18 August and close on 31 October.

AVCAT scholarships include Long Tan Bursaries and sponsored scholarships. Sponsored scholarships are for the children and grandchildren of ex-serving veterans. Long Tan Bursaries are for the children and grandchildren of Vietnam Veterans and are available in each state and territory. The Long Tan Bursary is funded by the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

AVCAT sponsored scholarships are funded by ex-service organisations and private donors.
These scholarships are for children and grandchildren of ex-serving veterans.

All bursaries and sponsored scholarships are for tertiary education and are $4000-$6000 per year, for up to three years.

To Be Eligible

Eligibility for a scholarship includes the following:

  •  Australian residency status
  • Planning to enrol or enrolled in a tertiary course of study (recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework) for one or more academic years at a university, TAFE or a registered training organisation in Australia.
  • Be studying or planning to study full-time, online or face-to-face. Priority is given to those who have not previously undertaken tertiary education. Applicants who are seeking a scholarship for a second degree, or a graduate degree, Masters or Doctorate will be given lower priority.
  •  If an applicant has received a Long Tan Bursary, they cannot be considered for another Long Tan Bursary.
  • In receipt of, or eligible to receive, a means-tested Commonwealth educational benefit - Youth Allowance, ABSTUDY, Austudy, Veterans' Children Education Scheme (VCES) or Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act Education and Training Scheme (MRCAETS).
  • Be a child or a grandchild of an ex-serving veteran. Children include adopted children, ex-nuptial children, stepchildren and foster children. Stepchildren and foster children must have resided with, or been financially supported by, their veteran stepparent or foster parent for 5 of the last 10 years. Grandchildren are defined as the children of one's son or daughter. Step-grandchildren are not eligible.
  • The veteran must be an Australian ex-serving veteran with operational service including eligible war service, war-like service and peacekeeping/peacemaking service OR 3 or more continuous years of full-time other service, as a member of the
  • Australian Navy, Army or Air Force.
  • People who are serving in the Reserve Forces (SERCAT 3, 4 & 5 – Rendering Service) are considered to be serving so the applicant child or grandchild is not eligible.
  • The same application form is used for all scholarships. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible
