Religion and ethics

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.

At Colyton High School, Special Religious Education (SRE) is delivered at school on Mondays during Homeroom time from 10:30am to 10:50am. SRE is held in the Library and is available for students at Colyton High School from Year 7 to 12.

On enrolment, parents and carers will be given an SRE participation letter to complete and return. It is essential to indicate if you wish your child to participate in SRE or not. After the initial enrolment into SRE, further changes to a child’s enrolment status in SRE should be given to Mrs Abiwahab, Teacher Librarian, in the Library, in writing. Students not attending SRE lessons will be participating in meaningful activities during Homeroom in their roll call class.

Christian SRE is provided by SRE teachers from St Mary’s District Baptist Church. This church is affiliated with the Baptist Association of NSW and ACT, which is listed as an approved SRE provider by the NSW Department of Education.

The facilitators of SRE include: Enoch Nagabyrava; David Cameron and Rhonda Lever. They are volunteer teachers who are authorised and trained to teach SRE within the school environment. The facilitators utilise Christian Education Publications – Think Faith, SRE approved, to inform their teachings.
