Pathways to Dreaming in School Program

Year 7 to 12 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Isalander students has the opportunity to take part in the Pathways to Dreaming Program offered by Western Sydney University on the 20th June 2024 at Colyton High School Library.

The Pathways to Dreaming Program (PTD) is a longitudinal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander schools’ engagement and aspiration building program in Greater Western Sydney. The PTD program is inspired by and grounded within the Aboriginal Culture Framework of the Four R’s – Respect, Responsibility, Reciprocity and Relationships.

Using the concept of ‘Journey’ the PTD program works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in partner high schools, through a structured series of program elements (eg workshops, campus events, mentoring, online yarn-ups and camp), which build knowledge and aspiration over time, leading to sustained/increased Aboriginal enrolments at Western Sydney University.

Taking a holistic view of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, the PTD program also includes strategies to positively impact students ‘circle of influence’ and bring those stakeholders on the student journey.

On the 20th June, students will partake in different session to learn about culture, tools, artefacts, aspirations and transition opportunities. During the sessions, WSU personnel will facilitate this program with the supervision from Mr Lane and assistance from Haley Trist. The program will run as follows:

  • 9:35 - 10:35 - P2-  Year 7, 8 and 9  - Identity
  • 11:05 - 12:05 - P3 - Yeqar 10, 11 and 12 - Identity and Transition

Students are to attend the session from what year group they are from. As students will be out of class, it is the responsibility for students to catch up on any missed work. Students must wear full school uniform on the day to participate in the program.
